The UR-600 integrated shredder and crusher combines primary shredding and secondary crushing in one compact plastic recycling machine. Bulky rigid plastic enters the single-shaft shredder, falls directly into the lower crusher through a controlled transfer opening, and leaves the system as approximately 12–15 mm flakes. This two-stage arrangement removes the separate belt conveyor normally installed between a shredder and a crusher.

Reference-configuration boundary: The UR-600 model and the side-feed and top-feed overall dimensions shown on this page are confirmed. Capacity, output size, power, knife details, rotor speed, hydraulic values, controls and auxiliary components are retained as a reference configuration and require project-specific review; they are not universal specifications for every UR-600.

Why Integrate a Shredder and Crusher?

A conventional size-reduction line normally uses three separate sections: a single-shaft shredder, a belt conveyor, and a granulator or crusher. That arrangement needs more floor space, additional guarding and wiring, another drive motor, and more transfer points where material or dust can escape.

UR-600 stacks the two cutting stages vertically. After primary shredding, material drops by gravity into the crusher below. A controlled baffle between the two chambers prevents a large batch of shredded plastic from entering the crusher at once. The integrated arrangement removes the interstage belt conveyor and places both cutting stages in one frame. Actual floor-space savings depend on the feeding configuration, discharge equipment and factory layout.

The upper single-shaft shredder performs controlled low-speed reduction; the lower crusher completes the final size reduction without an intermediate belt conveyor.

Current-Based Load Control and Anti-Jam Protection

The feeding system responds to actual motor load rather than pushing material at a fixed rate. The PLC continuously monitors shredder motor current and uses that signal to coordinate the hydraulic pusher and rotor.

  1. Normal load: the hydraulic pusher advances and keeps material in contact with the rotor.
  2. Current approaches the set limit: the pusher pauses or retracts to reduce pressure on the cutting chamber.
  3. Overload or jam is detected: the shredder automatically stops and reverses to release trapped material before retrying.
  4. Current returns to the normal range: forward rotation resumes and the hydraulic pusher advances again.

This control sequence is intended to manage excessive load and maintain steadier feeding to the lower crusher. Current thresholds, reverse time and pusher response are adjusted during commissioning to match the material.

Controlled transfer between stages The baffle below the shredder meters 30–50 mm material into the crusher instead of allowing the entire chamber load to fall at once. This reduces shock loading and helps the crusher maintain a more stable current.

How the UR-600 Processes Plastic

  1. Feeding: bottles, barrels, rigid plastic scrap or injection-molding lumps are loaded into the upper hopper.
  2. Primary shredding: the 22 kW low-speed rotor cuts bulky pieces to approximately 30–50 mm.
  3. Metered discharge: the baffle controls the flow from the shredder to the crusher.
  4. Fine crushing: the 11 kW lower crusher reduces the material to approximately 12–15 mm.
  5. Air conveying: a 3 kW blower transfers the flakes through a 133 mm hose to the 500 L storage silo.

Rotor and Knife System

Single-shaft rotor with 28 replaceable rotating knife positions.
Thick SKD-11 square knives for plastic shredding
Heavy-duty square shredder knives. SKD-11 is specified for wear resistance and serviceability.
Two 100 mm fixed flat knives for the lower plastic crusher
Two sample 100 mm fixed flat knives used in the crusher section.

Suitable Feedstock and Final Output

The machine is designed for rigid thermoplastics such as PP, PE, HDPE and selected ABS parts, including bottles, barrels, thick-wall containers, pipe offcuts, injection-molding lumps and purgings. Material should be free of metal, stones and other hard contaminants. A material test is recommended when the feed contains glass fiber, high mineral filler, heavy contamination or unusually thick sections.

Capacity and output depend on material type, bulk density, feed dimensions, moisture, contaminants, screen opening and operating conditions; power, knives, rotor speed, hydraulics, controls and auxiliary components require project-specific confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when the shredder begins to jam?

The PLC detects excessive motor current, stops forward feeding and commands an automatic reverse cycle. After the obstruction is released and current returns to the permitted range, the rotor and hydraulic pusher resume normal operation.

Does the hydraulic pusher move according to motor current?

Yes. Under normal load it advances; near the preset current limit it can pause or retract; after the load drops it advances again. The final setpoints are tuned for the customer’s material during commissioning.

How are the shredding and crushing stages connected?

In the reference arrangement, the lower crusher receives material directly from the shredder without a separate interstage belt conveyor. Final space, power and connection requirements depend on the selected configuration and site layout.

Can the output size be changed?

The final particle size can be adjusted through the crusher screen and cutting configuration within the machine’s design range. URIDGE confirms the screen after reviewing the feedstock and downstream process.

Can URIDGE test our material?

Yes. For difficult or unfamiliar materials, a sample test is the best way to confirm throughput, knife configuration, screen size and discharge method before production.
