Overview
Plastic shredding equipment performs the first stage of size reduction in a recycling or processing line: oversized plastic – pipe, purgings, film, blocks and bulky scrap – is cut into smaller, more manageable pieces that can then feed downstream granulation, washing, pelletizing or reprocessing.
Shredding is distinct from washing and from pelletizing; it is a pre-processing size-reduction step, not a machine that contains those stages. Whether a shredder is needed, and which type to choose, depends on the material and the process that follows.

The two types differ in mechanism and the feedstock they suit; the choice is driven by material, form and downstream process rather than a fixed capacity.
- Single-shaft: a high-torque rotor with wear-resistant knives and a replaceable screen, with hydraulic or manual feeding. Suited to injection scrap, purgings, large-diameter pipe, plastic blocks and film, and often used as first-stage pre-shredding before granulation; wood and rubber are also handled.
- Double-shaft: two counter-rotating parallel shafts with interlocking blades running at low speed and high torque to shear and tear bulky, tough and mixed feedstock, with a replaceable screen. Suited to plastics and, as extended capacity, tires, e-waste, metals and cables, industrial scrap and mixed waste.
Materials & Applications
Core materials handled are rigid plastic, pipe, film, purgings, lumps and blocks, and production or edge-trim waste; wood and rubber are also processed. Through the double-shaft type, size reduction can extend to tires, e-waste, metals and cables, and mixed industrial or construction waste. Typical uses include plastic recycling pre-shredding, pipe and film recycling, injection and extrusion scrap recovery, and preparation before granulation or reprocessing.
