PET Recycling SSP Systems

Overview

SSP (solid-state polycondensation) is a downstream upgrading process for PET recycling. Recycled PET can lose intrinsic viscosity (IV) and molecular weight through earlier handling, and an SSP system raises them again by holding the material at controlled temperature in a vacuum or nitrogen atmosphere, improving mechanical strength, thermal stability and barrier behaviour for higher-value reuse.

SSP is distinct from washing and from pelletizing. It is an independent upgrading step, not part of a washing or pelletizing machine; a complete PET recycling operation may run these stages in sequence, but each is separate equipment.

How SSP Fits Into PET Recycling

Prepared or washed PET feedstock → SSP solid-state polycondensation → IV and molecular-weight upgrading → downstream reuse. SSP is a downstream upgrading step of its own: it is not washing and not pelletizing, and a washing or pelletizing line is not a component of an SSP system.
