Customized 1,300 mm PCL Sheet Extrusion Line for Medical Fixation Products – Beijing, China

Equipment Supplied
Customized 1,300 mm PCL Sheet Extrusion Line with Center Slitting for Medical Fixation Products
Project Overview
URIDGE supplied a customized wide-format PCL sheet extrusion line to a medical consumables manufacturer in Beijing, China. The customer produces low-temperature thermoplastic sheets for downstream medical products, including orthopedic fixation splints and radiotherapy immobilization products.
This was the customer's second URIDGE production line. The first line, purchased in 2017, produced sheets with a width of 620 mm. As demand increased, the customer required a higher-output solution that could expand production while maintaining the required finished-sheet dimensions.

Customer Requirement
The existing 620 mm line could produce one sheet across its working width. For the capacity expansion, the customer wanted a wider system capable of producing two finished sheets from one extrusion cycle.
URIDGE therefore developed a customized line with an effective final sheet width of approximately 1,300 mm. The wide sheet is slit and trimmed through the middle to produce two finished panels, each measuring 620 × 930 × 2.4 mm. This configuration approximately doubles the usable sheet output compared with the original single-width line.
Production Information
| Project Location | Beijing, China |
|---|---|
| Customer Industry | Medical consumables |
| Raw Material | PCL (polycaprolactone) |
| Extruded Sheet Width | Approximately 1,300 mm |
| Finished Sheet Size | 620 × 930 × 2.4 mm per sheet |
| Production Output | Approximately 180–220 finished sheets per hour |
| Downstream Processing | Center slitting, trimming, perforating and contour cutting according to the finished-product design |
| Typical Applications | Orthopedic fixation splints, radiotherapy immobilization masks and related low-temperature thermoplastic medical products |
Customized Wide-Format Solution
The production line was engineered around the customer's required product dimensions rather than supplied as a standard-width machine. Its wide-format configuration forms a sheet of approximately 1,300 mm and then divides it into two usable 620 mm-wide panels after edge trimming.
This design allows the customer to increase output using one integrated production line. It also simplifies production planning because both finished panels are formed under the same extrusion and calendering conditions.

Finished PCL Sheets
The extruded PCL sheets are processed into the required shapes and perforation patterns for downstream medical applications. Product dimensions, thickness, hole pattern and contour can be configured according to the intended fixation or immobilization product.

After downstream forming and assembly, PCL sheets can be used in products such as orthopedic fixation splints and radiotherapy immobilization devices. The application photograph below is a representative example of finished products made from perforated PCL sheet.

Equipment and Service Scope
- Customized wide-format PCL sheet extrusion line
- Production configuration for an approximately 1,300 mm sheet width
- Center slitting and trimming arrangement for two finished sheets
- Process configuration based on PCL material and the required medical-sheet dimensions
- Equipment installation and commissioning
- Production testing and process adjustment
Installation and Operating Result
The widened production line was installed and commissioned successfully and has operated to the customer's satisfaction. Together with the original 620 mm line supplied in 2017, the customer now operates two URIDGE PCL sheet production systems.
The second line gives the customer a higher-capacity production route for medical PCL sheets, with an output of approximately 180–220 finished sheets per hour in the specified 620 × 930 × 2.4 mm format.
